Driving Licence Categories

  • Category AM: Mopeds (bromfiets), light mopeds (snorfiets), speed-pedelecs, and microcars (brommobiel).
  • Category B (Passenger Car):
    • Motor vehicles with a Maximum Permissible Mass (Toegestane Maximummassa - TMM) up to 3,500 kg.
    • Carrying a maximum of 8 passengers (excluding the driver).
  • Category B+ (Code 96): Car and trailer combinations up to 4,250 kg.
  • Category BE: Trailer up to 3,500 kg behind a 3,500 kg vehicle (total combination up to 7,000 kg).

Towing Rules with Standard Category B:

  1. You may always tow a light trailer with a maximum permitted mass up to 750 kg.
  2. You may tow a trailer heavier than 750 kg, provided that the combined maximum permitted mass of car + trailer does not exceed 3,500 kg.
  • Crucial exam point: The calculation is based on the maximum permissible weight on paper (TMM), not the actual weight at that exact moment!
