  • Sleeping or drinking black coffee does not accelerate alcohol breakdown!

Drugs, Saliva Tests & Laughing Gas

  • Police administer a roadside saliva test (speekseltest) to detect cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, and MDMA. If positive, a mandatory blood test at the police station follows.
  • Nitrous oxide (Lachgas): Classified under the Opium Act; driving under the influence is heavily penalized under Article 8.
  • Refusal to Cooperate: Refusing a breath, saliva, or blood test is a standalone serious criminal offense (misdrijf).
