2026 CBR Theory Examination Standards (Category B)
Complete technical breakdown of the CBR Rijbewijs B exam structure, statutory passing criteria, and ADAS question rules based on official 2026 guidelines.
Structure of the Car Theory Exam (Category B)
The official CBR car driving theory test consists of exactly 50 questions that must be completed within 30 minutes (or 45 minutes with approved extended time). To pass, candidates must answer at least 44 out of 50 questions correctly (88%). Questions are distributed across three statutory sections:
Hazard Perception
Cockpit dashcam views with 8 seconds per scenario. Three choices: Brake (sharp deceleration), Release gas (heightened readiness), or Do nothing (safe continuation).
Traffic Knowledge
Factual legal rules, road signs (RVV 1990 Annex 1), overhead matrix signs, speed limits, alcohol/drug limits (0.2‰ vs 0.5‰), and APK technical inspection.
Traffic Insight
Complex multi-vehicle junctions, exit constructions, tram right-of-way, motorway merging, defensive maneuvers, environmental zones, and modern ADAS systems.
Scoring Rubric & Question Modalities
During the official computer-based CBR testing session, candidates encounter multiple interactive question formats:
- Multiple Choice Questions: Two to four options with a single correct statutory answer.
- Yes/No Questions: Binary compliance queries evaluating specific actions (e.g. "Are you permitted to park here?").
- Numeric Value Input: Candidates enter an exact number (e.g. speed limit in km/h, tire tread depth in mm, or follow distance in seconds).
- Priority Ordering & Hotspot Scenarios: Determining the sequence of departure (first, second, third) across equal or complex priority junctions.
ADAS Vehicle Systems Mandate
In alignment with EU General Safety Regulations and the 2026 CBR examination syllabus, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are thoroughly examined. Candidates are tested on Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Blind Spot Monitoring (BLIS). Crucially, CBR questions test legal liability: ADAS systems assist but never relieve the driver of legal responsibility.
